About Jill Orsten
Jill Orsten was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in the third grade. Despite frequent flare-ups she became a competitive equestrian show jumper, a curator of contemporary art, an artificial intelligence researcher and now a Development Coordinator at Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.  Jill will speak about how her connection with her horses helped her navigate the course of her illness and how those who suffer from chronic conditions can develop an acute ability to empathize and persevere.

About Jennifer Wakeford
After being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in her early twenties Jennifer Wakeford decided to get involved with the local Calgary Chapter of Crohn’s & Colitis Canada. Jennifer started out volunteering at events such as the M&M Barbeque, Heel-n-wheel a thon, and the golf tournament. After attending many chapter meetings, she became an integral part of the organization & coordination of an annual Calgary Gala fundraiser to raise funds and awareness in this city. Jennifer went on to become the chair of the inaugural Black Gold Gala in Calgary, and will continue to chair for the next four years. She is very excited to see the direction in which Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is going, as she believes they are finally gaining awareness and support from the general public – which is so important in moving forward and ultimately, finding a cure.
